Ross Gibbs

Sensei Ross Gibbs is a godan (fifth degree black belt) in jiujitsu with twenty years of martial arts experience. He is an instructor of kenpo jiujitsu, which is a combination art of kicking, striking and grappling.

In the 1940s Master James Mitose (kenpo) and Master Henry Okasaki (dan zan ryu jiujitsu) cross-trained in each-other’s arts, which led to kenpo jiujitsu. These two men were true pioneers of cross training. Kenpo, in Hawaii, is commonly known as a street fighting art. There is a lot of dan zan ryu jiujitsu (Hawaiian Island style) influence in this system. Dan zan ryu consists of sefukujitsu (healing arts), Chinese and Japanese jiujitsu, Hawaiian lua and judo.
